    RIP Jimmy

Martin Samuel, in the Daily Mail today: Jimmy was a natural. One year, he told me, he sold up and moved to Cornwall. He'd been on holiday there many times, loved it, and was working for Central Television. He thought the commute up the M5 would be straightforward but had reckoned without the...

    Do you remember...?

There was Pathe footage for this match but it was only filmed outside the stadium. This footage is from The Topical Budget - who had 9 cameras there! It's great to see Dimmock's goal which wasn't in the Pathe footage, some goals from this kind of era are faked by newsreels (like our 1901 final...

    Do you remember...?

This week's Spurs memory is really pushing it... maybe only Walt and Greavsie amongst us remember the closely-fought 1-0 victory in the 1921 FA Cup Final against a second-division Wolves... ? The Spurs team that day was: Alex Hunter, Tommy Clay, Bob McDonald, Bert Smith, Charlie Walters, Arthur...

    Do you remember...?

maybe the ticket allocation was different? As it was a 'European final', first ever of the UEFA Cup? i (think i) remember listening to the second leg on my dad's black and silver radio in the dining room where i was meant to be doing homework (i was 15 - not free and doing whatever i wanted like...

    Do you remember...?

For Week 2 of Do You Remember...? it's a classic smash-and-grab cup final victory for Spurs from 1972, the UEFA Cup Final 1st Leg against Wolves at Molyneux, having beaten AC Milan in the semis. It was the final of the first-ever UEFA Cup tournament, two legs played on 3 May & 17 May 1972. The...

O/T Covid-19 - Discussion for the duration of this crisis.

Some of you may want a look at this (try 12m to 22m). https://www.shorturl.at/foJNS It is from an independent multimedia news website, supported by members contributions, that seeks to examine corruption. They review a leaked SAGE document, discussing 9 ways to achieve behavior change in the...

    Do you remember...?

i was lecturing in Barnet that evening and didn't get out until past 10pm. As soon as i did i called my mate who was a season ticket holder in the West Stand and asked him "What was the score?". Him "5-1". Me "oh FFS". Him "no, we WON"

Thinking today about what bonds people on this site, and what we all have in common, it's the many years of glory longing and hoping, and frustration, pain and suffering too. We support the greatest club in the world. You can change your name, address, country of residence, relationship...

Sceptic - "an ancient or modern philosopher who denies the possibility of knowledge, or even rational belief, in some sphere" i don't even count myself as a sceptic Chiv! (or a philosopher for that matter)... i've tried to stay on course in life by having courage at key times, reserving the...

O/T Covid-19 - Discussion for the duration of this crisis.

I just donated £30 to support Simon Dolan who is legally challenging the lockdown in the UK. Should he win each of us will still have the personal choice be able to choose to stay indoors full-time at the end of it. https://www.crowdjustice.com/case/lockdownlegalchallenge/ Government asking...

Apparently six days ago Peter Hitchens said Boris Johnson has "created this terror... People are still convinced there is a bubonic plague which they will catch if they come within seven feet of somebody." I'm not a fan of either of those two guys. Maybe this one should be doing the speeches!

O/T Covid-19 - Discussion for the duration of this crisis.

Here's a recent BBC Newsnight slot on "Is the government really ‘following the science’?" No conclusions here but raising the difficulties and likely inaccuracies of first modeling (no surprise there), and the need for the bodies with ethical and economic responsibility (government) to TAKE...

Excellent article Chiv, thanks. These issues can't be dismissed or imagined away by compulsive fearful reaction. They needs critical thought, open debate in public, and some killer data that shows the situation better - not invented, approximated, unlikely numbers.

Yes Harry, i've noticed that for the UK and wonder why. Stanford in California got onto this at the end of March and demonstrated that immunity was 45 to 80 times higher than the daily 'killer stats' reveal. Then again, their research sunk without trace where the most vocal authorities were...

Nick, have a read of this guy, he's a recently retired professor of pathology and a former NHS consultant pathologist. He gives his 10 reasons to end the lockdown, and this might be the kind of advice Boris is getting (and might have been getting the last 3-4 weeks) from various sources. Are we...
