Lincoln City 1-2 Fleetwood Town: Michael Appleton Talks To The Press

They were at it again on commentary tonight (when I could bear to listen to it), and they've been taking their cues from somewhere. Referring to Scully the excuse made for his uncharacteristically lacklustre display was that he "has played 35 games". But 11 of those were off the bench, he's...

Match Thread: Lincoln City v Fleetwood Town

As has been pointed out we've now conceded the first goal in the last 5 league games (1 win, 2 draws, 2 defeats). There have been mathematics professors who've worked out the probabilities for scoring first in professional football assuming relatively well-matched teams and if you score first...

Lincoln City 1-2 Fleetwood Town: Michael Appleton Talks To The Press

He does usually strike a good balance between giving an honest assessment of a game and managing not to over-criticise the team and individuals. It's a pity that the tiredness excuse wasn't nipped in the bud last month though instead of it being built up into an actual thing.

Match Thread: Lincoln City v Fleetwood Town

When you bring in players like Poole, Bramall and Sanders when we did they can only learn on the job as there's no time to train and get used to the patterns of play. The full backs in particular are very important in this way of playing as they are expected to play as wingers, create overloads...

We don't look like a team that's headed for automatic promotion, and it pains me that supporters of the self-proclaimed big clubs will consider themselves proven correct. I don't really want to say that in the aftermath of another mediocre home performance as it looks like the sort of reaction...

That's a good side, and a good bench, despite the alarms. I hope to God Fleetwood have a Plymouth-like midfield though otherwise I'm still concerned about Johnson playing in there

    What Are You Watching Online?

Upstart Crow is one gag idea stretched across three series. For the first three episodes you can enjoy it, but extending it that far, with the same format and jokes every episode, showed that Ben Elton is just as formulaic and predictable as Brendan O'Carroll. A good premise in the end turned...

    Darren Moore leaves Doncaster

There was a bizarre situation like that at Christmas three years ago. Carlos Carvalhal was sacked by Sheffield Wednesday on Christmas Eve after they got beaten 2-1 at home by Middlesbrough the day before. Bizarrely Middlesbrough had already sacked Garry Monk the previous evening despite the win.

I know, but it's an interesting point don't you think? That's 34 EFL clubs who have changed their manager. Exclude us and Huddersfield and that's half the entire Football League. They'll never be appointed by Norwich, Brentford, Swansea, Stoke, Middlesbrough. There's not an awful lot left out...

The "right job"? Clubs which have changed their manager since 20th July 2020 Championship: Birmingham, Reading, Forest, Barnsley, Derby, Sheffield Wed (x2), Watford, Cardiff, Bournemouth, Bristol C League 1: Swindon, Wigan, Shrewsbury, Sunderland, Burton, Wimbledon, Fleetwood, Northampton...

You may mock @Chimpimp but I can only repeat what I said in the "Cowley and Dons" thread, about the case of Alan Curbishley Over 700 games in management at a high level, with a 38% win record with Charlton and West Ham. Hasn't had a job since 2008 when he was just 51 despite all that...

    Darren Moore leaves Doncaster

Interesting that once again they're not considered for the "bigger" Sheffield Wednesday job. Not that anyone in their right mind should be taking that, but it's continuing the same theme with them.

This could work out very well. All our best players will be fit and raring to go for the play offs.

    Cowley and Dons?

"...the club are telling me they spent a lot of money gaining.. promotion from the Conference into League 2, and then out of League 2 into League 1. Their budget was definitely in the top two for three seasons"
