Tour de France

Pogacar seems to have the race in the bag, btw.

Smashed the time trial and looked fresh as a daisy.

After yesterday’s result, I’m wondering what magic juice these Slovenians have discovered.
At the age he is, Poj looks frighteningly good. The only team that looks strong enough to challenge him in the the mountains appears to be Ineos but, apart from possibly Carapace, I don’t see any of them threatening him for the overall.
However, a crash or an illness on a mountain day is always possible. So don’t put your mortgage on him just yet.

We've really seen the very best in the world come to the fore in this race.

Van der Poel - tick
Alaphilippe - tick
Pogacar - tick
Van Aert - tick
Cavendish - tick

This is sensational from Van Aert. He doesn't at all look like the sort of rider who should be able to leave everyone for dead after two ascents of Ventoux. He's dropped serious climbers here. Hopefully he'll hang on because this will be a famous one for him.

Pogacar different league.
Chapeau

Sadly, the only one (possibly) in the same league crashed out early in the tour.
Bearing in mind his age, one can envisage this lad being at the top for a few years more.
6 wins? 7 wins? Who knows, but it does look a definite possibility.
Some gorgeous scenery today though.
And we still have Friday and Sunday to look forward to. Can Cav do it?

Shame.

But the plus side is he has motivation for the next year to return.

Wout Van Aert though. Wow.

Biggest mountain stage twice over Ventoux - WON
Time trial on penultimate stage - WON
Biggest sprint stage in cycling - WON

If that doesn't spell out 'elite all rounder' nothing does. I can't think of anyone else who's done that in the modern era.
