Despite watching loads of games, I admit i know virtually nothing about most of the players that don't play for us. I barely watch the opposition team players at all. I couldn't tell you any of the Lincoln players last night for example. I've been known to turn up on a Saturday without even knowing who we're playing to be honest.I don't rate any player, until they put on a Gills top

When we do sign a player i usually know nothing about the. What I do know, I read from WIkipedia. That's probably why I just don't judge them before they play for us.
Me too AK re Junior Lewis. Quality player.I always rated him. I thought he was harshly criticised. It seemed to be a common occurrence in those days that a CM was criticised if he wasn't Smudger, Saunders or Hessie.
Browning and later on Adam Miller also copped a lot of stick from the gills faithful - similar types of players I think.
I think a few changed their opinion on Junior Lewis based on one cross.
I found this in a much longer interview article about Peter Taylor.Me

He did a match saving interception in our goal area a few seconds before going up the other end and providing that cross.
I was a huge Junior fan for that very reason MM.I don't think I've ever seen a gills player who was so good at some things and utterly hopeless at others.
His long passing and crossing was exceptional, but his touch was possibly the worst I've EVER seen from a professional. The amount of times the ball would just ping off him about 5 yards away to be intercepted was ridiculous. He also couldn't dribble whatsoever...
But then the passing and crossing!
Without a doubt, the weirdest player I've ever seen play for us
Similar with Ewan Roberts, I had high expectations of himI reckon JET proved us wrong - but not in a good way.

My mates wouldn’t have it but I stuck to my guns.
I also remember telling them that Nyron was absolute quality and once again, they all took the piss ..... until he ended up in the top division.
I was on holiday in South Wales when we signed him.A few people on seeing my Gills shirts that fortnight told me how good he was and what a wonderful signing for Gillingham. I fell for it unfortunately so was extremely disappointed on seeing him play.Similar with Ewan Roberts, I had high expectations of him
Dennis Oli was an impressive athlete, just a shame about his footballing ability. I do remember him scoring in a snow affected game and throwing himself into one of the snow drifts built up by the touchline to allow the game to go ahead. He was then pelted by snow balls by his team mates.Ha, yeh with JL, you just had to take the good with the bad!
Nyron was a funny one, when he started he was utterly hopeless up front. It doesn't really help that he was playing out of position in order to cover for one SBT moving to City...
... and then he started playing right back.
He was ridiculously good, he was without doubt the best athlete I've ever seen play for the Gills, and I LOVE an attacking right back, and his overlaps down the right wing were amazing. One game sticking out being the 4-3 win against Millwall at home when he scored the winner!
He also went and played up front for us in the last game of the season one year as we had no forwards, and to show just how much he'd come on as a player, went and scored two goals vs palace!
I remember my lad saying that Denis Oli was the hardest working crap player he’d ever seen.Dennis Oli was an impressive athlete, just a shame about his footballing ability. I trumped him with Gary Mulligan
Against Millwall in the Championship was my favourite Nyron display. Absolutely epicThe problem (in a good way) that Nyron had was that he was such and athlete he could almost play anywhere on the pitch which probably over the course of his career held him back a bit. Rather than nailing down a position and making that spot his specialist position he was used as a versatile utility man for a lot of his career.
That Palace game was brilliant.
