I still see Liverpool and Manchester City as the stand-out teams in the Premier League and think one of them will win the title - but Leicester and Tottenham might have something to say about that.
Southampton also spent some time on top of the table over the weekend and it is pretty refreshing to see some different teams up there. It certainly keeps things interesting and it's something that might last a bit longer too.
The big thing that has stood out already about this season is how unpredictable it has been compared to previous years. Every team has had at least one bad day - including all of the sides I have just mentioned.
That makes it exciting, and I don't see it changing anytime soon, partly because of the intense schedule and the number of injuries that clubs are going to have to cope with - which is turning into another common theme.
'Leicester will head for Liverpool full of confidence'

Liverpool were top of the table on Friday morning but victories for Southampton and Tottenham saw them take turns in first place before Leicester leapt above them with their win over Wolves
It is Leicester who deservedly lead the way at the moment. They are among the teams who have got injury problems but they are still playing some magnificent football.
I was really impressed by the Foxes in their win over Wolves on Sunday, in everything they did - going forward and defensively.
They are missing some key players in Wilfred Ndidi, Ricardo Pereira and Caglar Soyuncu but you wouldn't know it from watching them.
Jamie Vardy is 33 in January but he is looking as sharp as he's ever done - I know he missed one of his penalties against Wolves but some of his attacking play was fantastic.
Then you have Nampalys Mendy, who was unbelievably good in midfield, and what a find Wesley Fofana looks at centre-half.

'Outstanding' Leicester delight Rodgers
Brendan Rodgers' side have had slip-ups like everyone else, in their case losing at home to West Ham and Aston Villa last month.
But now they are on a run of six straight wins in all competitions, and they will be full of confidence when they take on Liverpool at Anfield on the Premier League's resumption after the international break.
'Spurs are unspectacular but still winning'
When you've got the forward line that Tottenham have, with Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Gareth Bale, you always carry a threat, especially with the form Kane and Son are in.
Son didn't even have one of his better games against West Brom but it was Kane who popped up with another vital goal right at the end that briefly sent his side top of the pile.
Credit has to go to Spurs boss Jose Mourinho, though, because of the positive change he made 12 minutes from time, when he took Moussa Sissoko and Bale off and brought on Lucas Moura and Carlos Vinicius.
That's what won them the game in the end. I know Harry secured the three points but it happened because Mourinho was looking to win the game, and it worked.

West Brom 0-1 Tottenham: Jose Mourinho praises Baggies' spirit
Spurs have now gone seven games unbeaten in the league since losing at home to Everton on the opening weekend in what was a poor performance.
Yes, that run includes their 6-1 win at Old Trafford but they have also shown they can win the hard way, when they are not playing well.
They dug out wins over Burnley and Brighton in the past couple of weeks and it was exactly the same against the Baggies so, without playing spectacular football, Tottenham find themselves in a great position in the table.
They actually should have more points on the board, but they conceded a late equaliser against Newcastle and somehow let that 3-0 lead slip in the final few minutes against West Ham.
Even so, they have given themselves something to build on and their game against City on 21 November is another one to look forward to.
Positives for Guardiola at the back
The way City and Liverpool started on Sunday, I thought we were set for an absolute classic. The game was incredibly open and both teams began with a very attacking line-up.
Liverpool were like a 4-2-4 when they went forward, and City were the same. It looked like we were going to see a lot of goals.
They both kind of cancelled each other out after half-time, though, and as the game went on it looked like the fear of being beaten meant they both settled for a point in the end.

Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool: Pep Guardiola reveals discussion with Jurgen Klopp
You can understand if fatigue played a part as well, because they have both played twice a week since the start of season in mid-September, and had Champions League games again in midweek. That's probably a big reason why they could not keep up the pace they started the game with.
City will rue their missed penalty at 1-1 and also they had the best chance to win it in the second half, when Gabriel Jesus headed wide, but I thought a draw was a fair result.
Liverpool look more solid with Matip

Sunday's draw leaves City in 10th place but that is a false position because they have a game in hand. If they win it, they will go fifth - two points behind Liverpool.
Pep Guardiola's side have had an eventful start to the season, with their collapse at home to Leicester and having to cope without a fit striker when Jesus and Sergio Aguero were both injured.
They have come through it pretty well, however, and one of the biggest positives for Guardiola is that Aymeric Laporte and Ruben Dias have already formed a solid defensive partnership, something they struggled to find last season.
Liverpool have had issues too, mainly in adjusting to life without the injured Virgil van Dijk, but Joel Matip came back into their defence at Etihad Stadium and they looked a little bit more solid.
Their big set-back this season was obviously the 7-2 defeat against Aston Villa, which was a result that shocked everyone - but it's notable that they have not lost in seven games since.
They can still terrify teams when they pour forward and, like City, they are not going away anytime soon. This season may be unpredictable, but one of them will end it as champions, I am certain of that.
Alan Shearer was speaking to BBC Sport's Chris Bevan.

TBF I make Shearer reluctantly right.

If there is any outsider that can win it, I'd have to put my money on Leicester, the depth of their squad and the way they are playing is attractive, but like us are prone to a slip up when they get sloppy...but I think they just edge us overall.

I wonder how they would look at things if we hadnt been cheated out of the win at Newcastle or had put West ham out of their misery. We would be head and shoulders above the rest and still not have played very well so far. TBH its all shoulda woulda coulda. But i would prefer to be a team getting points and developing than a team playing out of its skin for a couple of months then going south (Everton).

We have so many things to develop and players who are playing themselves into some kind of form. The problem for us is the next batch of games we need at least 2 or 3 from a list of players to step up with Kane. Son did it up until recently but now seems to have dropped off. We need at least 2-3 players to light the afterburners.

Bale
Ndombele
LeCelso
Son
Berg
Alli
Lamela
Lucas
Aurier

We only need 2 or 3 to really step it up and suddenly we will be mixing it quite happily with Man City and Liverpool.

Spoke to a Liverpool supporting workmate earlier. Discussing Spurs grinding out wins. He remarked "you mean like Liverpool did in half their matches last season"

It would look different and we'd all feel different, but for now let's also not forget how screwed up this years PL is; VIlla have a game in hand and could go Top !!!!

Our current league position possibly needs to be put into context.
We have played eight games, only one match against one of the big six, and five against teams that will in all probability finish in the bottom half of the table. It's difficult to argue against the fact that, on the face of it, the early season fixture list has been kind to us.
Against the 'bottom half' candidates we have had two draws and three hard fought single goal wins.
There however lies the positive. We produce our best football against the better teams who come out to play against us, and grind out wins against teams who don't want to, or who are not good enough to play,
Now we have a run of games coming up against better teams who believe in their own ability. I believe that this will be to our advantage, we will see a very different Sonny against Man City than against WBA and Brighton, because he will have the space to play.
I've said on more than one occasion in 80's 'Where Will We Finish' thread, that no proper assessment can be made until we've completed the run of fixtures coming up now.
If we are still in the top four by mid December, and I believe we will be, there will be every reason to be optimistic of a CL qualification finish at the end of the season, albeit that I don't believe we will be realistic title challengers this season.

Long balls can work, we are in mid-table medicority.

However, the hoof ball success from CB's isn't mapped. i.e. a successful hoof ball.

Then of course, who can forget this row in January>?

Trouble is, when you double click into the stats you find that they're doing some stupid measurement like 35 yards in the air. What I want to see is the passes broken down into distances. Then you'll see us up the league in the truly long passes category.

We have bought in a high-profile manager for the reason of his track record of winning trophies. I am also frequently reminded about the depth within our squad (I am still not convinced). However, CL qualification is the minimum aim. I don’t see the point of Jose being here if we don’t see ourselves as title contenders.

I actually don't think this squad was assembled to compete for the league. Jose's first mission was to unite the squad and get them interested again after the disinterest we all saw in the final Poch days. He then needed to balance the squad without spending piles of money so we can get back to some sort of normality. By doing that and having absolute superstars like Kane in the ranks he can get them flattering to deceive.

So I'm not getting carried away yet, but I'm not complaining either. I do think that if Jose can get Kane, Son, Ndombele, Gio and Reggie firing then he has 5 amazing players worthy of a league winning side. I also think Lloris and Dier can be steady performers at this level and give us consistency. I hope that Jose realises that beyond that the next level may only be achieved from the integration of youngsters like Japhet, Rodon, Dele, Bergwijn, Gedson etc. We know all there is to know from the rest of the squad so it is that or the transfer market that takes up another level.

As for Bale, I'm to be convinced that he can get to the fitness levels and re-reacclimatise to the Prem but live in hope the coaching team keep working on him. You see little glimpses, but you're more likely to see the game passing him by at the moment.

I'm also trying to enjoy the journey, but sometimes the team selections and brand of football can leave you a little underwhelmed until you look at the league table.

I, like Muttley, am enjoying the ride. I'm not expecting to win anything this season.

This year has put many aspects of my life into perspective. I was far too consumed in the ups and downs of Spurs before Covid. Their performance was something I had no control over yet it seemed to control my emotions to a degree.

I honestly never thought we'd see Bale in a Spurs shirt again, so that has been an unexpected bonus, but I'm not getting over enthused. Kane back to his brilliant form is refreshing. New signings have injected a fresh dynamic into our squad.

It all looks good for a decent finish.

Am I worried or nervous? Nah. What will be will be.

Well sad to say...Shearer is not seeing what is happening this season...there is no consistency among the top 8-10 teams...I honestly think many teams can win the damn thing this year.

I will say it again...mark my words....whoever figures out how to play defense first will win this thing.

You can.

Plug the stats into a speadsheet and run any power BI desktop tool or any BI tool and you'll find the answers.

The results (for us) are not pretty - we're heading the league!
