Tonight’s match - Mansfield v Scunny

If we do go through (as now appears likely) we will be only the second team under the new competition format to do so without winning a single game in normal time. Northampton won all three of their group matches on penalty shoot-outs last year.

7 of the PL youth teams are set to go through as things stand - could be 8 after tomorrow. Eventually one of them will reach the final and then the FA/EFL will have to address the format.

I doubt they will change anything to be honest. Inevitable that one will make the final and win it sooner rather than later as EFL clubs aren't putting their strongest teams out. Will be a very empty Wembley though

Agreed, inevitable that this season, next season, season after etc, an U21 team will be in the final and maybe win. Our opponents last year, Chelsea, good well do it. What happens then who knows.

They need to return to the format of 20 or so years ago where, the top Conference clubs were invited into the competition. It was far more meaningful and beneficial to English football.
