Yellow Cards: Current State Of Play

Vital Football Legend
Time to revive this feature for 2018-19.

From the start of this season, yellow cards are competition-specific. Therefore, five yellows must be accumulated in EFL games to carry a suspension from an EFL game. Two yellows are required in each cup competition to generate a one-game ban from that competition only.

The cut-off point for five yellow cards is the 19th league game of the season, which ironically is scheduled to be the home game against Mansfield on 24 November. Five yellows accumulated in league games on or before the nineteenth game will result in a one-game ban: that game must also be a league game.

The cut-off for ten yellows is the 37th league game, currently scheduled to be the home game against Oldham on 12 March. With winter postponements likely before then, that is almost certain to change. Ten yellows accumulated in league games will result in a two-game ban (from league games only).

Current numbers are:

League games:
2: Neal Eardley
1: Michael Bostwick, Lee Frecklington, Shay McCartan, Matt Green, Bruno Andrade.

EFL Trophy:
1: Michael Bostwick, Jamie McCombe

On the evidence of how they conducted themselves against us in the Checkatrade match, having to play Mansfield in that nineteenth league game is far from a good thing. Hopefully we will not have anyone going into that game on four yellows.

Eleven yellow cards from thirteen games, yet we are still cheating thugs in the eyes of other fans. Bet they wish their own players would cheat as much as we apparently do.

Thanks just shows how teams are having to stop us.

game 13 last season was our first 5 yellows suspension - raggett [we drew 0-0 with cambridge]
by game 15 - cheltenham - bostwick also had 5 - missed the cheltenham game [we lost 1-0]

easy comparison of the improvement:
last season we had 11 yellows [and 1 red] by league game 7.
by league game 13 we had 22 yellows [and 2 reds]

last season bookings/reds @ game 13
ragget [4+1 in the cup at rotherham]
bostwick [4]
eardley [3]
hab [2]
dickie [2]
woodyard [2]
rhead [2]
palmer
farman
waterfall

green [2 yellows > red]
knot [1 straight red]

more pressure on the defence last season leading to bookings for the back 7?
also, this year we have shackell who plays cb but wins everything cleanly, and reads the game so well he hardly ever needs to even tackle. no bookings for toffolo or pett either, which is quality considering the roles they play. uti!
