MATCH THREAD … The NLD 28/4/24 Home

At least if Davies plays we will have three defenders, which we will need, with some support for Van Der Ven in our final third.

PREDICTOR THREAD The NLD 28/4/24 Home

We are so inconsistent that this really is almost an impossible call, it could range between 3-0 to us, to 3-0 Arsenal. It looks like being a good time to play Arsenal, they are looking shaky. I'll stick with a prediction I made a while back that over the remainder of the season we will beat...

    Other Games 23/24

There is not a season that goes by when we don't drop 12-15 points in fixtures where we should have fared better, and this season has been no different from any other. No matter who we sign and how strong our squad may look on paper, no matter who manages us, for me there will be no genuine...

    Other Games 23/24

I increasingly feel that those responsible for the management of VAR operate according to guidelines that favour the defending teams in the case of borderline decisions. Todays VAR decision in the United vs Coventry match was as borderline as it gets, the sort of decision that was so tight that...

    Champions league v Europa

I'll stick with my often expressed view that we'll 'break our duck' by winning the Europa League next season. Everybody wants to be in the CL, but the Europa is a very credible competition in its own right these days, and it would be good to go into the CL in a couple of seasons time, when we...

    Transfers - Summer 2024

I think we are all in agreement that he is not a number 9. Whether Postco's system merits sacrificing Son's true abilities is another matter altogether, particularly when that system is dependent on defenders being attackers, leaving Van Der Ven to play a lone role at the back.

    Transfers - Summer 2024

Perish the thought. If our moving Sonny out turns out to be Postco's legacy, that scares me. I'd far rather he played to Sonny's strengths, the prospect of losing Kane and Son in quick succession is for me unthinkable. It's ironic that it was not possible to give his predecessors the same level...

Good summary. As per my previous post, let's forget about it, all the ifs and but's won't all happen, but if we qualify in fourth place on merit, that will be a very worthwhile achievement, albeit we are more ready for Europa than CL at this stage.

    Other Games 23/24

I've been saying for quite some time that we will finally win a trophy by winning the Europa League in the 24/25 season, and I'll stick with that despite a number of our recent performances being nowhere near European title winning level. Certainly we're nowhere near being CL challengers yet...

MATCH THREAD … The NLD 28/4/24 Home

Rice definitely, but there are very few players in the PL who have matched Saka's level of performance throughout the season, and the same pretty much applies to Odegaard. I take your point that on paper, player for player, we probably match Arsenal. Unfortunately we are seldom as good on the...

    🏆 MotM & Player Ratings v Newcastle [H-PL]

I agree, there is a certain arrogance about him that often detracts from his performance. He's capable of being a very good defender, but is inconsistent whereby I think he tends to be over rated based on what he's clearly capable of, rather than what he actually produces.

    Season comparisons

Good stats Walt, it's hard to argue with your statement as regards progress. The only caution I would point out, as I have on several occasions before, is that our early season fixture list was quite generous, which set the season up well for this type of comparative data. Ultimately it's the 38...

I know that I am in a minority, but I find him one of the better pundits, a good combination of knowledge mixed with cynicism. Certainly he's always pro Spurs, unlike Darren Bent, another PLTV regular, one of Spurs worst ever signings who now takes great pleasure from any poor Spurs performance.

    Other Games 23/24

I was interested to hear Tim Sherwood on one of the PLTV magazine programs last evening say that he felt Spurs would still get fourth place, and will get the three wins necessary to achieve it. Three wins would obviously be Shef United, Burnley and one out of Chelsea, City, Arsenal or Liverpool...
