It's hard to say really. Alot of unknowns. Question marks.
But we have got potentially two 20 goal a season strikers WITH the right service.
But corners, free kicks and crosses need to be a billion times better than last season. We were woeful at this last season. Absolutely woeful.
I still think with the quality we have we should comfortably finish top half... Pushing for Europe I would imagine.
But then the old BMH injury list is never in our favour.

We've signed a set piece specialist who even trains throw in strategies

I get all this I really do and I'd be excited about this season but you just ignore the fact we've lost the best footballer we've ever had in my lifetime, you can't replace that even for 100m.
I don't think we've signed anyone who will strike the fear of god into any team in the PL. We've replaced him with 3 players but alas you can't field a team of 13.

It's going to be tough, a lot tougher than last season that's for sure

To stay positive, the way I see things are like this:
All of the teams that finished above us last season, didn't have Jack either.

What they had, like we do now , is quality in more areas of the pitch and a better squad.

Liverpool, Citeh, Utd, Chelsea are miles ahead.

Then you have Spurs, Leicester, Arsenal, Everton, West Ham etc all of a similar level. And looking at their squad, I dont massively fear them. I think we're on par. So its a shootout as to who wins thats mini league.

I'd rather we finish out of the Europa League places this year, but with a good cup run. Hopefully give Bidace and Chukwuameka opportunity in the the 2 cups.

As things stand I'd shoot for around 12th with the current squad. Should (and hopefully) we spend another £50m-£70m+ I think we could challenge for top 8.

I know a lot of people lauded Purslows' speech but I couldn't help but get a little paranoid about how he was linking the existing business to the Grealish sale. Hopefully he's just playing his cards close to his chest which would be the smart thing to do. Time will however tell.

I don't think we have the luxury of thinking we are anywhere near the Europa League this season with or without playing a couple of kids .
We're becoming Everton again, bringing in a few expensive recruit and thinking oh this is our year and then watching it fizzle out.

Yep we could be anything from 8th to 12th depending on the next month and of course injuries.

Jesus Christ what about Leeds. Replaced a left back and nothing else. Are they as doomed?

So AEG and Traore scored 17 goals and 7 assists last season between them and people would bomb them out of team and replace over half the team? No successful team wholesale replaces their team season upon season. What's with all these negative attitudes?

Purslow was never going to come out and say that they were on going on a spending spree with the Abu Dhabi FC payment. He is playing his cards close to his chest. The board and Smith knew that there was every chance of the departure and I suspect that the bid came in before the Euros and as such the 'leaving strategy' was invoked.
The Danny Ings deal was an example of how Villa do their business as was the Ashley Yoing signing. Ings himself said that he was sworn to secrecy to the point he couldn't tell his family. Villa do not talk about other teams players and will tell the clubs and the agents that much.
There will be other incomings and not necessarily the ones talked about in the press. With what we have and other key positions covered we should finish 5th to 8th and I have a sneaking suspicion that we will take quite a few teams by surprise with the speed and directness of our play and Ollie Watkins will be licking his lips over having some help anď playing to his strengths.

I don't think I'm being negative at all. If we were to finish 12th I wouldn't be calling for anyone's head for instance, I just think a quality central midfielder (e.g. a JWP or Neves) would really push us forward at this point. That would obviously take our spend well beyond the Grealish money and that would be my preference rather than sticking with what we current have.

This has nothing to do with AEG or Traore, totally irrelevant.

Buendia is a massive upgrade on Barkley defensively besides his amazing vision. I think you guys are being unnecessarily negative

Nobody is saying he isn't.
Not being negative but also not trying to spin we'll be better off without snake2 .
You don't generally lose the best footballer in the PL and get better.
Something we won't know but I'm not expecting top 6 like some, not yet unless we buy some better quilty back 6 players, we concede far too many shots.
An Injury to mings Ezri or Martinez and we are in deep deep shite

Yeah I don't quite understand what the "negativity" here is. Are we supposed to predict a top 8 finish and say we will be much better off without Grealish? At the same time no one is saying we are doomed and going to have a dreadful season.

Hoping that we spend more to strengthen the first team is not being negative. Overreaction I think.

We won 7 drew 2 lost 3 when Barkley didn't play. Against Newcastle Liverpool we conceded injury time goals when Barkley came on as a sub. He was major reason for conceding goals because he ran around like a fanny off the ball

Fair play to those who are so utterly convinced that everything will be ok. The absolute truth is that is no one whether fans or coaches know how this will go. Impossible to say with certainty. As 57 says we have lost an irreplaceable player and the player that everything was built around . It won’t be a case of clicking the fingers and everything will be ok. If only football was that simple and easy. Yes long term I can see that hopefully the over reliance on one player is bad and this is an opportunity but I don’t think that change will happen overnight and it’s job on to get through this quickly.

There is a reason why Abu Dhabi paid 100 million. There is a reason why the whole country was calling for Generic Jack to play at the euros. There is a reason why so many villa fans have bestowed so much praise on him and titled him the best they have seen. It is a huge blow and set back and one we will get over in time but we are weaker at the very least in the short term . If the 3 players in Ings, Buendia and Bailey are the replacements for Generic as Purslow said they are then one third is tested at this level , one third is untested and the last third got relegated last time he played in the premier league.

We need to make a couple more quality signings.

Had our form continued through to the 2nd half of the season, we could nof easily reached 8th place or so, and that was with a poorer squad.
With a better squad depth and balance (which we now have), we can continue beating Arsenal home and away. We beat Chelsea and Spurs towards the end of the season. We put 7 past Liverpool.

I don't see how we wouldn't, at the worst case scenario finish in the same position. I think we'll improve again.

We put 7 past Liverpool with Luiz and McGinn in central midfield and Barkley and Trez and we've upgraded on the latter 2
