V Northampton

I never understand this obsession that some in football have (both media and managers) with the "small squad of 24".

That is catastrophic in the championship. It's a 46 game season in the roughest league physically in the country.

Injuries and suspensions build up quickly. In an unlucky year you can easily have double figures of players out, and those years probably happen 4 times a decade at least.

We saw Rotherham relegated last season simply because their small squad ran out of steam.

Well the rules have a part to play in that; they state you must name a 25 man squad, 8 of which must be home grown. This does not include Academy graduates aged 21 or under but does include other Clubs graduates aged 21 or under who are on loan.

As ever, we don't have to be patient as there is absolutely nothing we can do either way.

I hope more than anything to have a bit of cheer from football this season.

But this forum is the perfect place to mouth off frustrations, worries and anxieties about the way the transfer window is going.

I've never been one for mouthing off actually at people on twitter; but there's nothing wrong with a bit of venting in this closed shop. Whatever will happen will happen no matter what stance any of us take.

Season ticket arrived yesterday; still feels hard to believe that I could actually be in my old seat in a month

You need to take a leaf out of da fuqs preseason ramblings chap

For what it's worth, a large proportion of those that left, weren't that involved and of those that were, excluding Christie & Garner - the rest were average, at best.

From a positive slant, we've absolutely slashed the wage bill and whilst we'd like to offload Bong, Arter, Bachirou & Jenkinson - far easier said than done.

I'm hoping Lolley is over his injuries, the likes of BJ, Gabriel, Fornah add youthful exuberance and Colback is another that barely featured due to injuries.

It seems as though Carvalho will get a chance, we've strengthened the GK position and I'm absolutely confident that there will be additions - but, every other club is in the same position, due to the Euros and most EPL squads starting a few weeks behind.

We need patience - whilst we may sell a player, we are not needing to and with a new CEO, I'm hoping we do start to do things differently.

Of course I am.

As well as being, according to you;

- the worst type of labour supporter
- the worst type of teacher
- the worst type of remainer
- someone who should just kill themselves.
- someone who should not mention my disabled children because it makes you uncomfortable and takes attention you would prefer on yourself.

I think I'll be able to live with your criticism.

As for IBM, I will push back on being patronised and slagged off for my opinion by anyone who isn't going to experience the same consequence of me being right that I am.

And you need talk; for years you have been all mouth and no ticket on these forums. It's not long ago that you claimed a home defeat to milwall under Pearce was the first time you had seen us lose at home. You soon tried to row back on they one when you realised what it said about you.

In the full knowledge you stopped reading paragraphs ago, I consider every fan who watches games equal, regardless of how they watch them; but I do think the consequences of a bad season (and perhaps the joys of a good one, although we wouldn't know much about that) are felt more keenly when you are there.

I hope you are right about Lolly but we have been down this route with sooo many players over the years

its been the best part 2 seasons of trying to get him right?

That is highly optimistic

Knockaert, Garner, Krovinovic, Christie, Sow, Ameobi, Ribiero all played a significant part in the season. For the most part, that group played a greater part in the session than many of those that remain.

If you add in Freeman and Murray, that is 14 of our miserable total of 37 goals disappearing from the squad. That's the sources of 38% of our goals last season disappeared without replacement.

You can add another 9 assists disappearing into the ether.

This is comprehensively not a squad that can afford to lose any source of goals. We are not a side that scored 70 and can afford to lose some prowess at the cost of slipping towards mid table.

This is a side that should have been relegated based on the number of goals scored. All three relegated sides outscored us. Only Derby scored fewer (by 1). We have never scored so few goals per game in a season.

We survived by having the 5th best defensive record in the division. Great. We are losing two specialist fullbacks from that tough defence; as well as two highly effective defensive midfielders.

The reality is, things are now too late to get a good start. The opportunity for this window to be a masterstroke has probably passed. The opportunity for it to be a disaster grows by the day.

I'm genuinely not convinced the depatures are going to do much to the wage bill either.

I wasn't predicting relegation last season.

I think you miss the point "duk".

A couple of months ago I said that the squad as it was would likely get relegated.

A couple of weeks ago I said the squad as it was would likely get relegated.

The squad as it was is exactly the same as the squad as it is.

I am talking simply about what we 100% know in the here and now, which is the players we actually have.

You may be comfortable imagining new signings before they exist and taking account of players that we might never have, but I prefer to actually have those players before I wax lyrical about the impact they'll have.

I am happy to agree with you in the assumption that the club intends to remedy most of these problems with new players.

But intends and does are two different things. As everyone keeps saying, this is a window like no other and i'm not counting any chickens until they are in the pen.

Wasnt having a go chap, you dont need me to tell you that everyone is allowed an opinion. Lbh, you do tend to err on the glass half empty, jus saying...

So to try to descrambler your "logic", you seem to be saying that 1) you don't like being patronized. And 2) you think you will suffer more for you being right than me because you occasionally miss the Radio Nottingham commentary by actually going to the odd match but I (just) watch all the games on my 65' surround-sound home theater system?

Your argument seems to be ( tell me if I'm wrong) that you can only be emotionally attached to something if you are physically close to it?

So, by your logic (for example) , if a close member of my family dies back in the UK it would cause me much more emotional distress if I was living in Nottingham than when I am living here in Canada?

And if ORF ( for example) has a similar tragedy and loses a family member in the UK he would be 3 times less affected than even my detached Canadian self?

It's an utterly ridiculous argument isn't it?

But no less ridiculous than your silly protestations about being more attached to, or affected by, Forest's plight because you are in Nottingham (and sometimes go to games)?

We all come on this forum to argue about the Reds because we love the club.

Cheer up duck

#end of patronizing.

Glass half full/half empty, it's the same every year. I remember us signing a glut of players, some said they were all shit(me) some said they were all taking us up.

As I say, this year is unique. Its on the back of no fans for 18 months being allowed in the ground with massively reduced income for every club but outgoings staying the same. I'm aware a few players took reduced salaries but nowhere near enough for us to go headlong into transfers. Then the other aspect is clubs need to sell, probably won't get near their valuation and down the chain its exactly the same.

I think most teams will look at loans to buy.

All im going to say is he had a tantrum and stopped going to games towards the end of one season and decided to pontificate towards people who were going to games

He's a special one
