This is the 2020 euros right lmao, only a few weeks away.

What do people think of our chances?

Imo same as always, reasonable enough on paper, massively suspect mentally.

We've got some decent attacking players, defence is a bit suspect and the midfield looks a bit lacking. Probably quarters and go out with a whimper.

I find it hard getting excited by international tournaments. Too many teams play like a bunch of strangers. It usually isn’t an interesting tournament until the knockout stages. July looks a good time to paint the hall and stairs, or play pétanque.

On paper, England are about as good as anyone after France or Belgium.

But the reality is that English footballers are gutless, spineless, pathetic mental specimens that are born to lose and when the going gets tough, they get going and we are 100% guaranteed to be schooled by anyone half decent in the knock-out stages.

We will probably beat a Croatia team past their best in the Group Stages, which will raise expectations to fever pitch only to probably lose to some second rate country with a population smaller than London in the knockout stages.

Agreed. I can see Portugal winning this again. If we had a different manager, I might fancy us. But we don't, and the last 16 will be it for us
I wouldn't bet my mortgage on England getting out of the group- it's a tough one.

Czech Republic and Croatia are both very decent sides.

Their banker is against Scotland, who will play out of their skins against England.

England's biggest problem is always scoring goals at major tournaments against sides that aren't shit. Croatia and Czech Republic are not shit and are exactly the kind of side England could labour against.

Scotland are shit but won't play like a shit side against England.

I think it's a tough group for England. They can get out of it but no assumptions should be made that they will

And actually I took a quick look at the potential match ups if they win or finish 2nd in the group. Finish second and they should reach the QF, before likely losing to Portugal, Germany or France.
Win the group and they still face the above, but in the last 16. I can see us beating Germany, but not the other 2

There's one certainty and that's as soon as any of these so-called world class stars pulls on the Three Lions they turn into a bunch of quivering cowards.

When was the last time England beat a serious team in a knockout game? Not a mid ranking Sweden type, but a proper team like Germany?

They beat Argentina in a group game in 2002
Did they beat Germany in a group game in 2000?

They beat Spain in the Quarters of Euro 96, but Spain were no real force then. And obviously Holland, but that was not knockout.

I'm really struggling here.

I can remember them getting knocked out by Germany a couple of times, Argentina, Portugal twice, Brazil and Italy. I can't remember them ever beating a team at that level in a knockout game when it counted.

Belgium and Cameroon in 1990 may not have been considered as Tier 1, but were both excellent sides.

I think Belgium reached the Semis in '86 and that Cameroon side were arguably the greatest African side of all time.
