Coronavirus

Some interesting stuff here apart from the obvious that German intensive care units are coming under severe pressure.

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/11/21/europe/germany-icu-beds-covid-intl/index.html

"Official data from the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive and Emergency Medicine (DIVI) show that the number of Covid-19 patients in German intensive care units (ICU) has climbed from 267 on September 21 to 3,615 as of November 20 -- a more than 13-fold increase in the space of just two months."

Europe's largest economy has gotten through the pandemic fairly well for now compared to its neighboring countries. This in in part due to its high intensive care capacity with 33.9 beds per 100,000 inhabitants; in contrast, Italy has just 8.6. But with Covid cases across the region skyrocketing, even Germany's healthcare system is under strain and hospitals in some areas are increasingly coming close to their limits.
Germany's leadership on Friday warned the system could collapse in weeks if the current trajectory continues. "The number of severe cases in intensive patients is still rising. The number of deaths is something that is not really being talked about and it remains very high," said Steffen Seibert, spokesman for Chancellor Angela Merkel.

And that could be bad news for all of Europe. Until now, Germany has been taking in Covid patients from neighboring countries whose health care systems are overwhelmed.

Brilliant tweet from two doctors at a practice in Stoke

Additionally, about a week ago someone went into that practice for a flu jab who had been tested positive for coronavirus!! The centre had to be closed for a clean, and a doctor and a nurse had to self isolate!

Hope that person got a hefty fine.
That's just so irresponsible.
Fines wont work. I'm not sure if most will be paid . First person on the IOM was given 44 days jail. Australia jailed a flouter for 6 months . Sonething to bear in mind . But I would never grass on someone who did. total scum of the earth

Well, the Scottish MP who tested positive and travelled back to Scotland and then, it emerges, visited several local shops and buinesses (causing them to have to close) is ... still an MP and at large.

So I don't hold out much hope for enforcement.

IOM have been jailing all covid miscreants.
One person visited a petrol station shop when they should have been isolating, wallop - straight into jail for a month.
Another went on a bus trip, same outcome, straight into jail.
People really would be doing their best to stick to rules in such a regime.
And of course, those flouting the rules are literally putting others at risk of death, its tantamount (?) to manslaughter.

Back in the 80s knowingly transmitting aids carried a 5 year sentence and in Scotland it was ten . OBE tended to be a bit carefully on a Friday/saturday night lol

Well we need to see how effective it is of course. And guess that won't really be known for a fairly long time and learning how many vaccinated people still end up ill with this virus.
But if it manages anywhere near its 90/95% claims that will be tremendous.

Heard a wee bit earlier that 800,000 doses being delivered for starters.
Presume priority has to be the actual vaccinators themselves first then frontline medical staff (ICU staff first). That might take up a fair chunk of that initial 800,000 batch.
Anyway, there'll be a priority list in place unless of course Hancock's Half Hour brigade have not quite done the preparation work...chances of that ??

Especially as it's a 2-dose vaccine, so actually 400,000 people initially. I think we have ordered enough of this one to vaccinate 10 million people, which could be achieved by April/May if the supply line and tricky logistics (with the need to keep it at -70) works.
