There certainly were rock shows circa 1976/7 ....they didn’t last that long, but it was Zeppelin, Deep Purple , Black Sabbath, Bad Company, Jethro Tull records and the rest .....then there was a ‘turn’ on about 9.00.... Saw one of the Schenker brothers in an earlier version of UFO/Scorpions, (I forget which) ....UPP ( a budget Emerson Lake & Palmer) ....Sam Apple Pie, Hustler (the band not the lads mag) ....

”Out out out get outta my house,
you better take yer trench coat too...
no daughter o mine’s going out wiv an hippie
or a scruffy little bleeder like you”......
classic :punk:

Although every act got an encore, sometimes two, the only one I remember getting three were The Kursaal Flyers who were superb, a bit mor pastiche on 50’s rock & roll rather than out and out rock but they went down a storm that night with Wigan’s rock afficianados
(in our defence I fancy this was before “Little does she know that I Know that she knows etc etc)

Then about half eleven ....we trooped out past all the soulies in their long leathers, clutching their holdalls ....We’d then go upstairs in Bluto’s if we’d missed last orders at the John Bull (which had only opened JUST before then)...
”Who knows were 40 odd years went ?”.....come on Sandy, I think we should be told

Did you ever walk along that corridor from Mr M's through the door at the end and you were upstairs at the Casino.

Also Christmas and New Year Eve bashes were legendary....usually descended into utter drunken farce.

Times were so much simpler then and infinitely better.

Whilst at Wigan Tech in 74-76 we put some great nights on at The Casino. Hustler, Screaming Lord Such and Babe Ruth.
Had other great Rock nights downstairs at The Grand. Brilliant times.

Blutos, Pemps, Sloopys and ofcourse King Of Clubs. Bierkeller on a Monday night with doog then school on Tuesday.

Remember going to a Leigh Tech do at Wigan Mecca near Christmas. Was stopping at me mates for the night. He lived in Atherton. We walked back in pissing down rain in December with those great big clod hopper shoes. A good walk to Atherton from Wigan at two in the morning. Vodka and Limes, Rum and Blacks and a shed full of ale gave us the fuel.

Sticky carpet at Pemps don't think it ever got cleaned, then a burger or hot dog on a stale bun from the immaculately hygienic stall outside Wall Gate Station with the question onions Sir, bloody dried onions, horrible.

When I started going to the Casino, underage of course, there were two halls the main dance hall and the one that Hindley mentions that became Mr M's. In the main hall was the dance floor and there were many good bands and artists that played that played there, one that stands out for me was Edwin Starr.

The other hall was originally used mainly for cabaret acts and the one I remember most from there was Tom Jones, as a young up and coming artist, what a voice.

You were able to walk through from one to the other and if you scored you would often leave the main hall for the quiet and darkness of the other.

In my late teens I drifted away from the soul scene and started to listen to prog rock, it was a chance encounter with Emerson Lake and Palmer at the Ritz that turned my head. I had gone with a mate not knowing anything about them and came away a confirmed "proggy". Also saw Curved Air and King Crimson (post Greg Lake) both of which played in town.

Great times.

Saw this from the Leganes forum:

To sum up, the strategy of the Moreno Family is to buy clubs to get rich. Once the accounts are settled, for every four pounds that the club enters, three will be for them and one for the team. To give you an idea last year when the team was in the last position in the LaLiga classification, FC Barcelona and Sevilla bought our two starting forwards, for 38 million euros, investing 0 euros in replacing the two losses

It’s why they want to invest in the academy I suspect. We’ve been screwed by Choi and will be screwed by these as well in a different way. Dark times ahead.

Being pedantic Hindley I know but last song ever played at Casino was Do I Love You ?(indeed I do) per Russ W's book. 😉

Could be wrong mate, always thought it was On My Way.

On my way was the last song played every night and the last ever song played at the Casino

Hampton is indeed (if surprisingly ;)) correct. .................. from Dave Nowell, co-writer of Winstanley's book .........

Note; there was an "official" last night, followed by a couple of unplanned ones too. I think the reference is to the "official" one.

Saw a Liverpool band called Strife.
Their first album (Rush) was produced by R Dean Taylor.

Lead guitarist had a Gibson Flying V, remember him twirling it around his head (by its lead?) lit by a strobe - very impressive it the time.

Phew Rock and Roll to quote Jeff Bridges.

And the Kursalls were excellent, though did not see them at the Casino
