The Fitness/Nutrition Thread

Muscle memory and what not, you'll soon bounce back. Personally, I'd just do some quick ab routines, keep flexing and then look to beast when you have more energy. If you are feeling flat and you put yourself some of the routines you like to do, you really could burn out.

You though, are the best judge of yourself.

Strange that out of the group of 6 that run on a Sunday morning 5 of us felt really flat and lacking and energy. There is another group of 6 who are better/quicker runners than us who usually do a half marathon but they felt the same and ended up struggling to 10 miles. Not sure if it's the heat or what but sounds like you are the same @colavfc

Fantastic scenery. It looks a great place to run as well.

The one thing I have missed the last couple of years is running along the coast or in the countryside.

One of my best friends is a runner, and he goes for miles, often getting lost. There are crisscrossing public footpaths all across the South downs National Park.

I'm limited to Bridleways, so he has more choice.

And yes Fear, I hardly see the car!!! 9 days between using it last time.

I saw my Neurologist earlier this week. She is very happy with my progress.

Turns out there is something called Exercise Induced Migraines. Something to do with the oxygen not getting to the brain under extreme exercise. The bike allows me to ease off before that happens.

Also, many sports involve a lot of head movement, whereas your head remains reasonably stable when cycling and e-bike.

I just wish they had been available 10 years ago.

Yes, this is why the training i do works for me, I am decent, use good form and can control what I'm doing.

the ebikes do look a great idea and it is so obviously helping you, great to see.

Got a phone appointment with the new brain ache man, end of September. I'd hoped earlier but at least I've pushed and got an appointment.

It is unlikely that things have moved on, and when you are talking about things moving on, it basically means a brain chop! But got a few questions and I do know they do things via endoscopes and what not now. As said, unlikely anything to be done, but good to catch up with a more modern specialist.

Got a day off today. Wahooo.
Just done a decent wake up workout.
60 press ups
50 tricep dips
50 weighted jumping squats

As a circuit. Did that 3 times. Then at the end did tricep extensions with the big dogs massive rope toy which has some good weight.

Sets me up nicely for a good beasting later. Havnt done one for a few weeks so really looking forward to it.

Can I pick anyones brains on here please.
I used to run for many years to a reasonable level, but football broken ankle, then cross country, same ankle again left tendons etc weak, so I packed in the running.
7O next year but still manage 2-3 miles most days with the dog, over fairly difficult terrain so not complaining.
However this last few months the zip has gone out of it, and some days its an effort.
Can anyone recommend any sort of supplement that might help get the energy levels up again.
Thanks.

10 mile run this morning at just over 9 minute per mile pace.

Followed on from doing 4 miles yesterday at 8.20 pace.

Very good how active you've kept (which sounds condescending but really isn't)

The question though. Really no simple answer at all.

Depends what you mean by the zip has gone, depends the rest of the time how have you felt (not beyond the realms you've had a bug or virus and are getting over it) might be a bit of stress over the covid thing/anything else. Could just be a lull in energy, or have you changed your diet at all, maybe lacking in a vitamin or mineral. Have you sweat much when out walking, with it being muggy, could be slight dehydration. And so on.

There are energy gels, hydration tablets, caffeine (I can't really operate without an energy boost from caffeine most days, wish I could) and so on if any of those help.

I would start with the simple things, so check you are hydrating ok first perhaps. And wouldn't hurt to try to increase your intake of foods high in potassium, so bananas, natural yoghurt, err... long list you can google or I can cut and paste into here if you wish. Might be nothing to do with that, but you won't hurt yourself having that food anyway.

I think it has been pretty muggy of late, could be something that simple?

Oh and if it is 'just' energy you are short of, have you fuelled yourself for your walk? A simple porridge with a bit of sugar (fast and slow release carbs) works if you don't want energy gels etc and I know some cyclists (who don't like the caffeine gels) have a slice of white AND a slice of brown bread with jam on for slow and fast release carbs. An apple also wouldn't hurt.
