New player

What we appear to have found out is the remaining signings that Evans spoke of appear to be permanent.Given we have now maximise our loans unless we are going to leave one out the squad. Or indeed send one back. That means a transfer fee or more likely taking a player another club is willing to let go for free. The later doesn't point to a currently successful goalscorer.
Not much of a clue but it might point too someone currently in our team being sold .Unless Scally has found some funds down the back of the sofa.

Some good points well made, about our loans being maximised.

It sounds like Jordan is the replacement for Ndjoli. And if so, he sounds like a good upgrade having played a lot of games in L2 and Championship.

Ipswich fans saying they were using him as a striker last year due to main strikers being injured and he did a “fair job” until they brought in some big money signings.
Overall stats 188 apps and 29 goals (plus 20 assists if you like the americanisms). So 1 goal in about 6 games.

What would you call them? Attributable goal scoring opportunities for a team-mate which are converted by him? Or AGSOFATs? Hang on - just as long as 'assists', but assists doesn't need a glossary.

If he gets enough strikers in, one is bound to be ok.

If judged over 40+ games a season then we may already have our “20 goal striker” in our midst.

Alex Jakubiak currently has 6 goals in 12 starts plus 6 subs. When you consider a lot of those subs appearances were just for the last 5 mins, and he has also been subbed off a few times (including games he’s scored in), then his rate is a goal every 2 games.

If he played 40+ games he’d be on track for 20 goals. In fact, if he plays most games from here till seasons end he would get 15+ at his current rate. And that would put him top of a Gills list in a lot of seasons.

Wouldn’t call them anything Straightbat. Never used to be a “thing”. Wouldn’t know how many assists Cas got, or Shearer or Yeo. Or even Bob Taylor or Cody Mac more recently for that matter. I expect strikers to very often be involved in a goal, but who cares if they played the final ball.

Might be worth knowing for midfielders and wingers maybe. They are the ones often there to set up opportunities. But again, a midfielder might play a brilliant through ball that sets a player away and leaves the defence for dead. If he then taps it to his mate who scores and he gets the “assist” Who cares?

Agree with Keefy sounds like a replacement for Ndjoli. Hard to see him being an automatic starter but let's see. The goalscorer is the one we are most interested in. Plenty of time left in this window.

He's played 1022 minutes and scored 6 goals, works out to a goal every 170 minutes, so slightly better than a goal every other game.

If Jakubiak is that good, why doesn't SE pick him regularly?

Probably because although he is a pretty good finisher, the rest of his game needs improvement.

Would you pick him ahead of Hanlon, for instance, who has more pace and causes defenders a lot more problems, apart from not yet being deadly in front of goal?

Don’t ask me. I’m just making the observation that we have a striker currently going at a goal every 2 games. TBF a couple of the goals have been recently, so he may well be used a bit more from now on. Maybe not if we get in a “name” striker tho.

Jakuzbiak is a very clever finisher but not a target man. We still like to lump it forwards at most opportunities so we need a hold up target man. That's why Mandron starts ahead of Jakuzbiak.

If it was based on whose most likely to score then it would be Jakuzbiak.
