Match Thread: Lincoln City v Oxford United

What on earth is going on here? Have so many people really taken leave of their senses?

I'm a returned follower, therefore plastic by definition, but some of you thickandthinners have got too used to winning all the time.

We've beaten Accrington and Southend easily (not good sides) but also Rotherham and Fleetwood and should, in the end have won at Rochdale this week.

We should not have lost to MK, Doncaster or Bristol Rovers. The defeat at Wycombe, and today (naturally) were fully deserved.

Meanwhile, there also seems to be a school of thought that, having decided the squad, and their tactics, aren't good enough for L1, the Cowleys jumped and immediately joined a side at the bottom of the Championship with the worst record in England to test their tactics, which don't work in L1, in the Championship?

You want me to believe this? It's crackers. Get a grip.

It’s not the getting beat it’s the deterioration of performances that is the concern and the options open to make changes
We’re playing teams who are comfortable with movement and pressing
We however are moving through a transition of players and style from last season and it’s clearly showing
Don’t put any belief in that just because we’ve come up as champions we are destined for anything this season
We’ve got to turn these results and performances around sharpish
The worry is how much did the Cowleys management style actually embed its self in the individuality of our squad
If you break down our squad it’s heavily built upon senior/loans from which we are well numbered with midfield players
Games like today will keep on coming
If you aren’t fussed yet that’s your call

Terrible, not felt like that for a long time, had it so good for 3 seasons now. Where was the intensity!? Not the same side from first 4 games.

If I was Appleton I would draw a fresh line in the sand Monday, wouldn’t watch the game back or even mention it - hit the F5 button.
And if I was Appleton I'd want to review that match and some of our other recent losses, it's the best way to understand our weaknesses and start the process of correcting them sooner rather than later.

Of course. I would be sat watching all our recent games tomorrow if I was him. But he can act on what he sees on the training ground without having to make the squad watch that car crash, that’s not going to lift the mood.

Of the ten league games we have been outplayed twice - once by an up-and-at-'em team and the other, today, by a footballing side. Is it any more than that in your view?

And the fact is the players HAVE to react to today's reverse. Fortunately we now have a new manager to help give that bounce.

However, I always expected there would be some beatings on the way this season. I wasn't necessarily expecting that at home to Oxford, but there you go.

Bad runs are difficult to get out of, but the bipolar nature of the reaction to a couple of defeats or a couple of wins, confirms my suspicion that it's no different here to anywhere else. And that's after an unprecedented three seasons of success.

A couple of months ago a 10k stadium wasn't big enough according to most posters. Now we're as good as back in L2.

Good post and I agree however beware of anagrams from aggressive exiles .

I know a certain person who'll be in full on I told you so mode at work on Monday .
Ditto. I'll have a room full of them when I get in.
Never hear a word when we win - can't wait to ask what the score was when we lose.
Hudds have to lose tomorrow or I'm throwing a sickie.?

But if we play like that frequently we will be back in League 2. It was a fucking disgrace. Hopefully MA is the man to polish the turd that the Cowleys left us. 2 weak keepers, an absolute lack of pace at centre half, no fucker in the middle who can tackle, 1 and a bit strikers and 87 ‘attacking midfielders’. Sorry I forget the knackered fullback and the midfielder we signed cause he’s a nice lad but ain’t good enough to actually play. No wonder DC legged it, he laid the turd and realised it can’t be polished. Twat.

I've ready had my "what's the score?" post on FB from the armchair Manure fan during the game. No doubt, the Rotherham fans will want the low-down on why we lost.

I'm out of practise after 3 years of positives ?

He was apparently a Lincoln fan until the Cowleys arrived, he stopped going after we won the conference, wasn't happy that the club had ideas above its station.
I've been at another hospital for the last two weeks and he's been loving it, reckons the crowd will be below 4500 by Xmas, the compo will be used to clear and we'll be back in the conference in double quick time.

What’s noticeable to me is how the opposition are pressing us high up the pitch, much more than we seem to be currently doing on them. Wonder if that’s something been spotted and I imagine there’s a League 1 grapevine.

Hopefully it'll be a long time before he feels we've fallen far enough for him to return. If ever.

That’s interesting as I don’t necessarily think we are being pressed high. For me, teams are letting us have the ball safe in the knowledge we can’t do anything with it. They sit deep, wait for us to lose possession and then run through our ineffectual midfield and statuesque back 4. In the currently unlikely event of us putting a challenge in they can always just shoot and wait for Vickers to escort it in.
