Frank Lampard’s Derby County

Vital 1st Team Regular
Tough game this weekend against Frank Lampard’s Derby County. It’s been a good season so far for Frank Lampard’s Rams as they look set for another season of glorious playoff failure. Frank Lampard’s Derby also have a good record at the DW and Harry Wilson in their ranks who we were apparently offered last January and turned down due to the must play clause that Liverpool insist on. I reckon a draw against Frank Lampard’s side would be a good result but of course we’re at home and we have a chance of beating anyone at home.

Latics 1-1 Frank Lampard’s Derby County

Can someone send this to the relevant media outlets and let me know if I’m doing this right?

Sky say you didn't mention Frank Lampard enough there Clatic! Agree with your post, absolutely sickening obsession they have with Frank Lampard!

Apparently Derby have not lost a game in December for a few years, can't remember exactly how long but 2012 comes to mind.
Good or bad omen, not sure but I suppose someone has to break that record sooner or later.

Ram in peace. You guys rock at home but don't seem to like travelling. I sense a tight game with possibly just the one goal, hopefully, to us. It will be a tight affair. Good luck after tomorrow ;)

Regarding Harry Wilson we apparently agreed to loan him on deadline day but Hull came in at the last minute and it was decided he would be better playing in the Championship by Liverpool. I don't think we put the breaks on that deal but we were gazumped.

As for Derby I think this is the type of game we have tended to do well in - below play off mid table teams at home have yielded some of our better performances and results. But they undoubtedly have a quality team so it won't be easy, they have blown hot and cold this season so im hoping we can have the good fortune to catch them on a off day. Our high press will be very important as they have been caught a few times trying to play out from the back and if we can force them into going long to Waghorn and Marriott and over the head of Wilson and Mount we will have a much better chance of getting a result.

We could really do with the 3 points to balancing things out a bit after wasting 2 glorious chances to get maximum points against Reading and Bolton to try and edge away from the relegation battle which is sneaking up on us.

Sorry KDZ. All I seem to do nowadays is to argue the toss with you. ?

Though I generally agree with your post, I take issue with your last paragraph.

1. Though you're obviously right that we could/should have won those two, in balance, not many thought we'd get all the points against t' Rovers.

2. You say the relegation battle is "sneaking up on us"?! With 5 points in those 3 games, I'd have thought (but I haven't checked) that we've pulled away a touch from the bottom 3.

OK, we've a way to go, but 5 points from 3 games as an average for the rest of the season would be more than welcome.

Ahem! 7th place and level on points with 5 & 6 and just 1 point behind 3 & 4................ is that your definition of midtable? It's not mine. A win at your place and with other results going our way we could be in 3rd by Saturday tea time. That is not midtable.

Hot and cold? Cold against Leeds and Villa. The other defeats have been against teams putting up 2 banks of 4, aka parking the bus, and then kicking lumps out of anything that moves. We failed to find a way through. Wigan are well organised, press well but aren't, at least in what I have seen of them this season, lump kickers.

We do utilise the long ball as a tactic on occasions but not for an entire game.

Thanks mad hope you enjoy your day in Wigan but not too much will take 1-1up the tics

Derby will choke at the business end as they always do. Another set of deluded fans who like to think they are a big club.

The play offs is 4-6 you are 7th, if results go against you you could be 8th one point ahead of Birmingham, 2 from Blackburn and 3 from QPR - all the upper mid table teams. You are in the bracket of below play off to mid table that I suggested although I never suggested you weren't capable of challenging just that you aren't currently in them. You have spent as many weeks outside the top 6 as you have in them so aren't quite in the bracket of Leeds, Boro, West Brom who look nailed on for a top 6 finish having been in them virtually every week. Which was the point.

You have lost against Millwall, Bolton and Rotherham in between better results if that isn't blowing hot and cold I don't know what is.

If you think we are above lump kicking I don't think you've seen much of Sam Morsy. I suspect you'll be accusing him of doing just that Saturday evening regardless of the result. As for well organised and pressing it varies, some weeks good and some not so much.

Why don't you play long ball all the time? Because you're players are much better suited at a slicker passing game utilising more pace and skill. Hence why I suggested trying to force you into playing against your main strengths to increase our chances of winning.

What I said is factually correct. Not sure why you'd be that bothered by what's being said on an opposition teams board even if it wasn't. Hope you have a good day out at the DW but not so good you get a result. All the best.

Wont be there, I am at a Soul weekender in my adopted home city of Amsterdam......... Used to enjoy the Casino as a lad. Top music, top people. Will be at Pride Park though Monday week.

At home we should continue to be confident - this is exactly the sort of game we’ve been getting results in.

I’m going for 2-0 Wigan with a top performance as confidence returns to the squad on the back of the last 3 unbeaten.

Not going to try to guess the XI as I know would be wrong - I’ll just get right behind whoever is out there like usual.

UTFT!
